40 UNDER 40 INSPIRING INNOVATORS GIVE BACK WINNER Personal loss and setbacks never deterred Stacie Martin from nurturing her passion. Thrust into the role of caregiver for her father and oldest brother until their passings, Martin learned to juggle corporate and family life all while learning the ropes of her new formal-wear venture, Sparkle & Sass by Stacie. Now, she shares her story to help women see they too can overcome anything. Q: How does it feel to play a role in creating the magic of a perfect dress? Stacie Martin: I feel like the fairy godmother to hundreds of women! I find it quite humbling when a client trusts me to take their inspiration and create something, if only for one night, that makes them feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. Q: How do you mentor upcoming creatives? Stacie Martin: I’ve only been doing this for four years, but I like to give back as much as possible. Perseverance and true passion are what I hope to instill in those entering the business. I have an internship program with my alma mater Georgia Southern University, allowing future designers to experience running a brand firsthand. Q: What are ways you give back to your community through your work? Stacie Martin: Each year, I sponsor events with the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy and host a table at their annual Change Makers Breakfast. At the end of each season, I donate unsold evening gowns to The Enchanted Closet Atlanta for their annual prom dress giveaway. To date, they have over 8,000 dresses and counting.
